Run a part through the lipophilic emulsifier line
Scope: process the welded plate through a Method B post-emulsifiable line: the penetrant is not water washable until a lipophilic (oil-based) emulsifier makes it so. Evaluate under UV-A.
How it works: the part hangs from an overhead carrier. Drag it along the rail to move between stations, and drag it down to lower it into a tank — you'll see it go under and come back out.
Stations, in order: water pre-wash · penetrant tank · drain rack (dwell) · lipophilic emulsifier tank · rinse under UV-A · forced-air dryer · dry-powder dust chamber · development rack · inspection booth.
The emulsifier is applied by dipping only and works by diffusion — no agitation in the tank.
Emulsification time is critical: after the dip, a 90-second clock runs and the wash must follow immediately.
The stations are set up at shift start, so the wash can follow the emulsifier without delay.
Dwell times matter both ways: once a timer finishes, a red clock starts — don't let the part sit.
The part must be completely dry before the dust chamber — set the oven per procedure, run the cycle, then verify with the thermal gun.
Dwell timers are accelerated: 10 min runs in ~45 s. In the real shop you wait the full time.
